CONACYT announces their scholarship call for Mexican Master and PhD students

The Mexican Council for Science and Technology, CONACyT, has published their 2016-2017 call for studying abroad. It applies to Mexicans that want to study a Master Degree or PhD in a Top 200 ranked university (QS, THES).

Benefits

The scholarship consists of:

  • a contribution towards payment of the tuition fee, paid directly to the institution
    • For priority fields (see below): up to MXN $300,000 (+/- € 14,950) per year
    • For non-priority fields: up to MXN $76,800 (+/- € 3,800) per year
  •  a contribution towards the living costs of € 1,090 per month for single students and € 1,362 per month for
    students taking their family with them
  • a contribution of USD $715 per year for the medical insurance (and higher contributions if he/she travels
    with family)

Duration
The duration of the scholarship is max. 24 months for Master degree programmes and max. 36 months for PhD.

1st call

  • Start reception of applications: 26 February 2016
  • End reception of applications: 1 April 2016
  • Publication of results on website: 6 May 2016

2nd call

  • Start reception of applications: 4 April 2016
  • End reception of applications: 20 May 2016
  • Publication of results on website: 22 July 2016

Start of payment to the student in September 2016; the institution usually receives the payment of the tuition fee in September or October. Both calls apply for the semester that starts in September 2016 or the semester that starts in February 2017 (max. March 2017).

Environmental Sciences
Hydrology, Climate Change, Ecosystems and Biodiversity, Oceanography

Biotechnology and Agricultural Sciences
Aquaculture, Agronomics, Food and its production, Biotechnology, Veterinary and zoological sciences

Health Sciences
Emerging diseases of national importance, Preventive medicine and healthcare, Forensic medicine

Social Sciences (only PhD)
Combating poverty and food security, Knowledge economy, Migration and human settlements, Citizen’s security,
Public security, Public Science Communication, Digital society and economy, Natural risk prevention, Humanities
related to the aforementioned subjects

Furthermore, a special call is focusing on renewable energy and on hydrocarbons, with the following priority
studies:

Energy

  • Basic: programmes associated with exact sciences and their relation with the field of energy in terms of sustainable energy and hydrocarbons (e.g. physics, chemistry, Mathematics, etc.)
  • Specific:
    • Hydrocarbons – programmes related to different processes in the field (exploration and extraction, industrial transformation, logistics and transport)
    • Sustainable energy – Energy efficiency, Renewable energy, Usage of clean technology and diversification of primary energy sources

These fields include programmes focusing on operation (systems, information technology, environmental impact and sustainability, etc.) and programmes focusing on management (regulation, resource management, planning, economics, social sciences, etc.)
